Ok mate, , but at the moment my stats on my mage are 500 manna, 150 health and 100 stamina and with a little thought to be honest nothing touches me, , and no i havnt used alchemy with this one, , you maybe just need to have a look at it a little more and please please please drop the damn regen it's about as good as a chocolate fireguard,
Incorrect. It is only useless if you have 100% reduction on the kind of magic you are using.

Erm, , please read the thread completely as i was talking about 100% reduction, ,
I did. And you said drop it completely, no exception. There is an exception as he does not have full cost reduction for every spell he uses.

Why drop the regen? Even with the cost drop, spamming costs. Perhaps I should enchant with magic resistance instead? Since all my reductions are in destruction, I just feel like I need it when I'm using high level illusion and conjuration.

because your magicka pool is very high and either illusion or conjuration has probably got rid of 80% of the enemies so you have lots left to finnish them off, as for magic resist, try alteration for 30%, then the book of love for 15%, the lord stone for a further 25 % which is 70% reduction without enchanting.

BTW, a "chocolate fireguard" sounds like a great way to make cocoa!

Oh and just to expand, , , you only need one point of magicka left to summon another soul and cast calm or fury for them to sart all over again while you sit back and admire your handy work,

I want to know why NPC mages apparently have unlimited magicka? They're only wearing 50% or 75% regen robes in general and seem to use their stupid wards ALL the time (which just suck the magicka from me so I never use them) and can case ice spikes, spears, fireballs, lightning or whatever forever! I'm currently at level 61 with 300% regen and -142% destruction enchants and I still need to watch myself or I run out (thank goodness for Fondue!).

Seriously, why do NPC mages and hagravens have this ability? Frankly it's just easier to run up to them and cut them down with my battle-ax rather than try to get them with spells. Sheesh.

How are you running out with over 100% destruction enchantments? When I reach 100%, I don't even get the magicka bar to show up when I cast...or is it wards and conjurations?
It's wards mostly. Conjuration isn't a big deal and illusion isn't a problem either. I just can't get the hang of wards. I suppose I could hold it for a few seconds and then I'd recharge very quickly, but, so many mages use lightning they just suck up the magicka that I have as quickly as I can recharge it.
Ah, I understand. What's your magic resistance level? Is there any room to up it some? Steal anything over 100% destruction and divert it toward magic resistance?

My counter is just the Atronach Stone and then using Peryites Shield.

No magic resistance. No alteration, restoration, enchantments or items. I've gotta keep up my shock & fire resistance (plus I like having my muffle, sneak, one-handed and light armor enchantments). :) I'll just keep spamming them with ice-storms and fireballs from a distance, sneaking up behind them and slitting their throats, chopping off their heads with my battle ax and sticking 'em full of arrows. It's working so far and I can run too! (Besides, a storm antronach does a lot of good too!).

Doesn't going over 100% substract the remaining bits from that 100%?

It wouldn't surprise me, but I don't know. I know, with more than 100% destruction free, I still don't get any magicka bar when I use spells, so at least that doesn't. Not sure about resistance. Once I realized the cap was around 85 for that, I just stop when I get anywhere between that and 100.

I really only get a bar action when I use expert or master level spells but they regen super quick (of course). I only carry 400 on my magicka.

??? Uhm. What?
Well, it happened to me when I went over 100% reduction cost.
So I thought it was just that way.
I'm not even sure if you can get to 100. A while ago, when of our ex, but very wise, forumers put up the calculation and, apparently, the 50% bonus applies to 50% of whatever cost you already have, so, if you're using enchantments that take you to 100%. Something weird. I'll have to look for it.

I have done up four pieces of 25% gear and been able to cast everything from flames to firestorms, without a single blip of magicka. Now, I was not a destruction mage and had never put cost reducing perks into it, so maybe because didn't have that to worry about and stopped exactly at 100%?

Quite possibly. :)

I used a potion to get better enchantments and put 29% on four pieces, making it 112%. This still made me lose magicka when casting, but very slowly.
When I made something else with exactly 100% reduction, I could cast anything.
