There are several types of Dragons in Skyrim, 10 in total, with 4 variations of Alduin. Dragons appearances are dependent on player level.

Lv.10
Dragon (Brown, Fire) 905hp 37dmg (bite)
Dragon (Brown, Frost) 905hp 37dmg (bite)
Lv.20
Blood Dragon (Green, Fire) 1421hp 75dmg (bite)
Blood Dragon (Green, Frost) 1421hp 75dmg (bite)
Lv.30
Frost Dragon (White, Frost) 1860hp 150dmg (bite)
Lv.40
Elder Dragon (Bronze, Fire) 2255hp 225dmg (bite)
Elder Dragon (Bronze, Frost) 2255hp 225dmg (bite)
Lv.50
Ancient Dragon (Red/Black, Fire) 3071hp 300dmg (bite)
Ancient Dragon (Red/Black, Frost) 3071hp 300dmg (bite)

Alduin (various hp/lvl with various spells)

Edit: Scrolling over a Dragon will reveal it's type if you cannot tell from it's initial appearance.

I find that I can best most of the dragons using a combination of lightning spells. If I don't want to piss off everyone near me I don't use chainlightning and stick to lightning bolts. The plus to this is that with the perk that staggers the creatures, it usually interrupts their breath attack.
One tactic I try to use a lot is to get in a spot where the dragon can only get to me from one direction, and then lay into it with lightning spells. I also have several articles on that ramp up destruction spells and have a lot of magicka potions.

Two options:
1) It was using an invisibility spell. This has not been reported.
2) It was a glitch. This is likely.

Just adding to the tips on how to defeat dragons. I just hop in a spot where they can't reach me with their shout breath attack. Then pop out and archer them. Maybe a little Fus Ro Dah or Dragonrend to either stun them or keep them down. If I have a bunch of guards or followers helping me, they usually just focus on them, leaving me free to stand in the open and keep them constantly on the ground and arrow them to death. Any assassin type of character is SO cheap...but I can't resist XD Too much Assassin's Creed and Parkour videos...

To everyone else who posted up to this point except Pestilence: If you just want to talk about Dragons in general and have nothing helpful and/or responsive to say to the OP please take it elsewhere. We have a General Discussion forum where you can start your own thread for that kind of thing. Please don't derail a thread made by a player seeking help. It can discourage people from using this forum.
