I'd personally recommend Oblivion to anyone.

I played it since release and it's the game that really made me a TES fan. Very fun storylines in it, especially with the DLC however I feel that Skyrim has a lot more to offer in terms of the main storyline, and magic is a lot more polished in Skyrim too.

I actually disagree, I feel that Oblivion's story was much more dramatic and deeper, I was really unsatisfied by Skyrim's main quest. Oblivion is still my favorite TES game, more than Skyrim, and I feel like there were so many awesome things in Oblivion that Bethesda cut out in Skyrim... Oblivion has so much more depth to it and isn't so simplified like Skyrim is, it's the complexity that makes it interesting, like Morrowind

Agreed but for me the Oblivion Gate deux ex machina got tedious. They popped up everywhere and the experience in almost all of them (that I can remember) was identical. Got so tired of that architecture I would just stand there shile I ordered a pizza and ate it and then I'd end up jumping back out.

My single greatest memory of Oblivion was that one world that was painted in pastel watercolor. Can't remember what it was called, but that had to be the most innovative idea for a map that I've seen in a while - even more so than Tranquility Lane in Fallout 3. And dramatically less crashing than TL too.

Edit : It was this quest --> http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:A_Brush_With_Death . The Painted World. Just amazing.

Oblivion is good. Get away from all that dreadful snow. The Nords in Oblivion are kind of stupid though, so be warned about that.

The Nords in general are pretty stupid.... "Skyrim is for the Nords!".... uhhh.. no it isn't according to history. Skyrim rightfully belong to the elves, particularly the Dwemer/Snow elves. I'm just waiting for them to return just so that they can tell the Nords to get the fudge out of their country.
By that Logic woulden't that mean Skyrim belongs by inehritance to Knight Peladin gelebor

Yup. He also makes a very interesting observation about the Falmer after you kill his brother.

"Perhaps they'll never return to their former appearance, but over the centuries, I've noticed a rise in their intellect. If a line of communication could be established with them, maybe they can find peace. It's the only way they'll discover that they weren't always malignant... they were once a proud and prosperous race."

If this does happen then theirs actual hope that the Falmer can regain back their land for it was once theirs.

The Snow Elves shouldn't have attacked Saarthal. Slaughtering down to the last man, woman and child, save Ysgramor and his sons.

When you seek to attack the races of men, you either finish the job or prepare for a reckoning.

Question: What provoked the elves to such a deliberate, vi
cious attack, and what prompted such a severe response from the Nords?

Answer: The Nords found something when they built their city, buried deep in the ground. They attempted to keep it buried, but the elves learned of it and coveted it for themselves. Thus they assaulted Saarthal, their goal not to drive the Nords out but to secure this power for themselves. I believe Ysgramor knew something of what the elves would find under Saarthal, and rallied together his people to keep the elves from gaining it. When Nords once again controlled Skyrim, this power was buried deep below the earth and sealed away.

Proof indicating that the Nords are stupid... they think that Skyrim is truly theirs, and so they get rude to travelers.

I feel like siding with the Aldmeri Dominion all of the sudden.

me 2, but here is something to take note of it was the Eye of Magnus that they found now Magnus is not a deity worshipped by the Nords but by the Elves now ask yourself if a group of people who did not believe what you believed in had in their possession an artifact of your god and were keeping it from your people, would you not want to secure it at all costs and get it away from those who don't believe in the god which this artifact belongs to? here is the thing you don't know the mindset of the snow elves sure they could have misused it but then again so could have the Nords but another thing who is to say the snow elves would have misued it who knows perhaps they were very wise and knew the power it had so perhaps they attacked saathal to get it away from the Nords because if the Nords tamprerd with it..well they would be doomed and the snow elves..perhaps they thought either we kill these Nords and secure the eye or they tamper with it and we all die a small sacrifice when compared to the rest of Tamriel.

The artifact rightfully belong to the elves, not to the Nords. The elves didn't even want to evict the Nords from their homeland, just want their artifact back.

Funny how the Nords are now fighting to regain back their free worship that was taken away by the elves in current time.

Karma is a bitch.

They were smart, the Eye of Magnus isn't something to play with.

It rightfully belonged to Magnus. While Magnus was worshiped by Altmer and Bretons, we're uncertain of the religion for Snow Elves.

Even still, the power to unmake the world isn't something anyone should have. The Elves wanted their artifact back? They didn't even know it was there until the Nords uncovered it, and they wisely left it alone. Snow Elves were greedy, wanted unimaginable power.

We are however uncertain as to why Saarthal was attacked, they may have wanted greater power or they were in fear of the growing human population.

I feel like siding with the Aldmeri Dominion all of the sudden.

Go for it. Though here is an interesting post done by Bethesda on their forums. http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/14...ate-the-thalmor-dont-you/page-6#entry22598810

Can you show me that the Snow elves were greedy? Just because they wanted to covet the artifact for themselves doesn't make them greedy. Perhaps they were concern that if the Nords possessed this power artifact that they can use it against them, and rise up in power.

That is probably true. Most likely the same fear of current Nords who gets snippy at foreigners, especially elves.

I believe that was a troll response that shouldn't be taken lightly. The Thalmor are pretty arrogant, but they're no fools. The fact that they've have high influence within the Empire further discredits the theory of them being fools.

Oh and the Aldmeri Dominion are planning on doing exactly that... finishing the job by taking away Imperial citizens right to worship Talos with the influence of the Empire. It's the first step.

They wanted it, because the Nords had it. If you buy a steak, and I want it because you have it. Would you be okay if I simply slapped you and took it? Cause I'm concerned about you getting too much red meat?

That is probably true. Most likely the same fear of current Nords who gets snippy at foreigners, especially elves.

They don't fear them, they're just not friendly towards outsiders. The Dunmer are worse in Morrowind.

Bethesda doesn't troll their own forums. When they post, they post in hints.

The Thalmor are pretty arrogant, but they're no fools.

They are fools, they're arrogant fools. They believe themselves so superior, and they've taken that to the extreme. Foolish, because they're not superior and they'll bring about their own destruction.

The fact that they've have high influence within the Empire further discredits the theory of them being fools.

They don't have high influence if Tullius could tell Elenwen to basically shut up in Season Unending. They can make the Empire uphold the treaty and make one General come to a little party.

Oh and the Aldmeri Dominion are planning on doing exactly that... finishing the job by taking away Imperial citizens right to worship Talos with the influence of the Empire. It's the first step.

Talos worship will always remain. You don't need to openly scream about a God to worship him, there are many within the Empire who continue to worship Talos.

If everyone was supposed to own the land by the right of "being there first" in real life, most of the world would have to move back to Africa or parts of Europe or Eastern Asia. The big fish eat the little ones. A sad truth of humanity and life. And art imitates life.

"America belongs to the puritans".

Ponder in dismay.

I hate lockpicks in Oblivion. Just hate 'em. I can never find them and there are none to buy except few and far between. I have been without them for ages which means I can't get to 90% of the loot!. I so prefer Skyrim's. I can open any lock, no problem and only a minor loss of picks in Skyrim, but can't seem to get the hang of those stupid tumblers in Oblivion.

On the other hand I am a Master @ Sneak at level 13 so I rarely get seen, but nothing else seems to elvel quickly. Oh well. Back to Skyrim for a week.

That's really not placing the "races of men" in a very positive light. It's no wonder we are considered the most violently reactive creatures on the planet. Maybe we just do it because we like to be violent. We don't even do it for any purpose other than to kill each other for no reason.

They were at first. But unprovoked genocide and slavery tend to make people not so friendly. Where is your source that Men are never peaceful? Real life =/= Elder Scrolls.

Oh please. People are NEVER peaceful. It's not in our nature. Admittedly genocide and slavery might make you a bit unfriendly, but humans have never been known as the most accepting critters anywhere they live.

Can we just get the subject back on track. I believe it had to do with Oblivion and now its a debate between weather man is peaceful or not and the answer to that is no. In Real life or ES humans are not peaceful just look at Human history, The Crusades, The American Civil War, WWI and WWII, Vietnam, The middle east does that seem peaceful to you, honestly I want to know why? then look at ES history, few crazy religious snow elves try to reclaim Artifact of their deity at all costs, Man named Ysgramor stereotypes all snow elves as being like those who attacked when that clearly is untrue Gelebor for instance appears friendlier then any Nord I have encountered before then he leads 500 companions and Violenty slaughters them like animals even those who were innocent that sounds like something a bad person would do I mean a really Bad person as in "Thalmor" bad to me. he should have just taken vengeance on those who attacked Saathal but NOoooooooooooo!! he decides to selfishly try to wipe out their whole Race.
