Hey guys,

So I'd like to take a break from all my quests and stuff and just go out in the woods somewhere and hunt stuff. This would preferably be somewhere far away from civilization, not completely covered in snow- and it would be awesome if there was a place to live. So yeah.. anyone here know of any remote places to hang out at?

The forests north and east of Riften are pretty good. Not a whole lot of civilization as you get away from town a bit. Not as isolated as some one the snowier mountainous regions, but it's not snowy.

Northeast of Ivarstead is decent too. Especially around the river and the falls.

Also areas around Rorikstead are pretty sparsely populated both to the east and west.

If you head north from Falkreath, you'll end up in the pine forests, which have some game and a lot of little hideaways you could stay in for while. If you keep heading north from Falkreath, there's a wide strip of wilderness that takes you up the pine forests until you're on the border between Whiterun hold and the Reach, with game in both directions. If you keep heading north there's not really much in that direction except Rorikstead and eventually Dragon Bridge, save for the Forsworn caves which you can easily avoid.

Then of course there is the Forgotten Vale.

Sounds like you want Drelas Cottage, out in the plains between Whiterun and Rorikstead. Go to Dustman's Cairn/Hamvir's Rest, and head slightly NW, toward the circling dragon.

I once rp'd a months long seclusion in the Alchemist's Shack near Ivarstead. It was kind of a PTSD thing upon return from Sovngarde. Just hunting, harvesting ingredients and making potions, with rare trips to town for trading. That part of The Rift is lovely.

There's no fire for cooking though, that's one downside.

The area situated North of Markarth (The Reach) and west of Dragon's Reach (Haafingar) is quite remote. Save for a couple of trolls and Forsworn, it is teaming with game.

Is it possible for the 'stolen' tags to go away in there? I killed poor Drelas and was hoping to be able to live there, but it wouldn't let me sleep or take his stuff.

You know, that may be a problem. I didn't notice, because once I got the lover stone, I stopped bothering to sleep. According to UESP, it will remain owned, unless you're on PC and can mod it.

Occasionally I find myself hanging out at the abandoned shack in the marshes Northwest of Ustengrav. Its not too far from the civilization of Solitude, yet there's nothing there to bother you, save for a few mudcrabs.

When in doubt, follow the fox.
Whenever I want to do that, I go to either the Rift or the Reach. The Rift has a lot of bears, and some spiders. The Reach has more sabre-cats and some bears. Both are warm, and have great scenery. If you start at the Riften Stables and go to Ivarsted on foot, you'll have a great time. Be sure to look for the chicken shrine!
