Oh no, don't be sorry. I've done the same thing on several occasions.

I to have been delving back into skyrim. I sat down and had a good hard look at myself and told myself that if I started playing yet another op stealth archer build I would never allow myself to play the game again.

So I'm now doing a realistic RP playthrough as a pure Mage, a class that I never seem to see through. So I've started out and plan to walk all the way to the college, gradually building up experience that way, and then once I enrol I shall learn 2-3 new spells each day, and I won't allow myself to progress in the quest line until I have completed a task for each and every other member of the college. I'm hoping by that point I will have a character that deserves the title of Archmage. I would also like to try and collect a copy of every book and master all the dragon shouts, as well as complete the main quest line and the DB quest line as my character is the type who is motivated by knowledge, but as she learns more and more about the power her knowledge lends her she will become arrogant and greedy with power, eventually leading her to alliance and allegiance with Hermaus Mora. I'm quite excited.

Also I might get dark souls 2 because of reasons.

I'm playing a Dunmer Battlemage who joins the Legion right away and goes through the Civil War, then comes out of it to settle down and make a fortune, maybe even join the College (though I won't take that too far.) Eventually, he'll do Meridia's quest and in the process find the closed Imperial helm, which in my headcanon will gradually corrupt him into doing Daedric quests, joining the Dark Brotherhood, etc.

I got back into Skyrim a while ago and made a new character who I haven't played on since that sudden burst of interest.

He was a Redguard Imperial soldier who, after being transferred from a post in Cyrodiil, was mistaken for a Stormcloak, taken prisoner and sent to Helgen. He trekked up to Solitude to realign himself with the Legion following the incident, and went on to become a Legate among the Skyrim auxiliary. Following the civil war, he ventured around for quite a while with little purpose before finally settling down in Heljarchen Hall and beginning to raise a family. I had plans to have some incident occur with his family and vampires, which would drive him to take up the fight against them and join the Dawnguard.

Then I stopped playing Skyrim again. I suppose if I ever do boot up the game again one day, that will be the character I jump on.

Anyone use some kind of hardcore restrictions? I used to, but now a lot of them seem tedious. Now I just carry only a reasonable amount, walk rather than run, eat and sleep regularly, and try to pace myself on quests and whatnot.

I tried using hardcore restrictions, but found some of the really hardcore stuff, like playing without a HUD on, to be very tedious. While fun for a while, it gets annoying fast.

I always play with intermediate restrictions, though. Eating and sleeping regularly, only running when it is necessary, keep carry weight reasonable, health potions only at reasonable times/hand free, many of the same things as you, OP.

Also, I like to fight tactically, rather than just slashing my enemy to bits in a few seconds. Blocking, using shield to deflect arrows (makes me feel like a badass), shield bashing, taking strategic strikes, circling, all those sorts of things. Gives fighting much more depth and actually draws out some encounters. It's also fun to see how little health you can lose in a fight by dodging and blocking while chipping away at your opponent's health.

Yeah, there are a lot of possibilities, but I hope TES VI is actually built for that sort of stuff.

Also, now I have to go do the first part of the main questline so I can progress the War. Ugh.

So, Dark Souls II is pretty much everything I could've wanted in a sequel. I've been playing it a lot and it's really fun, and the difficulty is still there. (I'd even say it's harder in some ways.)

So yeah for those of you that haven't already, you should definitely play/buy it.

Do you think I'd be alright getting dark souls II and skipping the first game or would you recommend playing the first one for the vague lore and plops?

Well, it kinda depends. Because I played the first game, I'm picking up a lot of references and callbacks to the original while playing Dark Souls 2. Mostly in the form of brief in game dialogue and items.

But yeah there isn't a direct connection between the games at all so you won't be missing out on any story or anything. You won't know what's going on, but that's how it's been with every Souls game so far.

Hm okay. I may get dark souls anyway, just because the idea of skipping a game feels wrong to me, but it's good to know all the same.
