Skyrim Jobs for Roleplaying Oct 1, 2012
I've been testing several different occupations with my latest batch of characters to come up with a list for those who tire of the same old "mercenary / alchemist / blacksmith / thief" career paths. Here are some of my latest ideas for those who like to roleplay and keep a journal:
Horticulturist - primary source of income is harvesting vegetables and flora, doing favors for alchemists and collecting seeds for farmers from town barrels.
Land Surveyor - nobleman who works for the Jarl of a given hold, discovering all locations in the hold and clearing out bandit camps, keeping any and all loot discovered.
Entomologist - collects insects and conducts alchemy experiments to determine their alchemical properties. Sells potions created from insect parts.
Mead Distributor - collects free mead from the meaderies and sells it to innkeepers; recovers stolen mead from bandits and returns it to its place of origin (Nord mead is returned to inns; brand mead is sold back to its corresponding Meadery).
Trade Advisor - a nobleman who researches each hold's unique flora, fauna, and natural resources and recommends trade routes for each settlement. All income derived from importing / exporting large quantities of ores, harvested ingredients, and creature pelts/extracts.
Beastiary Researcher - studies the behavior and location of all Skyrim creatures that have not already been researched by Herbane. Publishes manuscripts about each creature. Only sources of income are pelts and ingredients collected from skyrim's creatures.
Physician - nobleman who conducts alchemy experiments to discover the beneficial effects of all available ingredients. Sells health, stamina, and cure disease potions to alchemists and general stores.
Food Critic - samples food and beverages at each inn in Skyrim and publishes a "best-of" list, such as "best cooked beef" and "best house mead." (RPG dice can be used to rate each dish). All income derived from favor quests activated during a conversations at inns.
Gourmet Chef - concocts unique recipes not found in skyrim, such as "boiled mudcrab chitins in snowberry jam sauce" and "jazbay spriggan sap stew." Sells "cooked" meals (ingredients) to innkeepers and general stores.
Bard Poet - Only performs quests and bounties offered by innkeepers. Travels from hold to hold, writing a song or poem about each hold.
I realize these ideas aren't for everyone, but those who like to roleplay challenging characters with out-of-the ordinary restrictions might enjoy them. Please let me know what you think.
