  I recently made an Alik'r mercenary who fell in love with and married Saadia.
  Sjadbek showed up at his wedding. He and my character have never met.

    Wouldn't surprise me. (What probably happened is that I have the Sjadbek/PC relationship set automatically to Ally so that he'll follow you immediately without having to do any sort of quest, which I don't know how to program. Particularly if marrying Saadia and doing her quest was among the very first things you did in that game, it wouldn't surprise me.)
