Square’s Christmas Gift: New Gameplay Footage From Kingdom Hearts 3

by on December 21, 2015

This is cruel to point out, but it has actually been TEN YEARS since the last proper Kingdom Hearts game. Kingdom Hearts 2 was released for the Playstation 2 back in 2005, and fans have been left mostly dry ever since, having to sustain themselves on portable-sized spinoffs while the story spun its wheels and became a lot more convoluted in the process. In 2013 Kingdom Hearts 3 was confirmed at last, and today we have actual gameplay footage to show you. These are areas we’ve seen before, and essentially animated versions of recent screenshots we’ve gotten (we get to see how Sora uses that Buzz Lightyear ride as a weapon), but still, this proves KH3 is functional now, and that much closer to being finished.

Before you get to Kingdom Hearts 3, you’ll have to wait through about three minutes of another game. This is a dual trailer for both KH3 and the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. KH 2.8 is a remaster of Kingdom Hearts 2, the 3DS KH game Dream Drop Distance, and something brand-new to play entitled Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep — A Fragmentary Passage. You’ll get to see some footage from that new morsel of KH as well as KH3.

Kingdom Hearts 3 still has no release date to speak of, but we’ve been promised the compilation disc will arrive sometime in 2016 for the Playstation 4.
