According to an anonymous witness (whose username on Reddit is “RabbitMix”), he was casually spending the evening at his computer desk playing Prey on his PC when he suddenly heard a loud popping noise, followed by the sound of shattering glass. Having no idea what had just happened, he searched around the room — and that was when he found the stray bullet, and the evidence of its destruction.
“I was at my desk playing Prey last night, [and] soon noticed the cloud of drywall dust in the air and a bullet hole to the left of my monitor. I started looking for where the bullet had ended up and my heart sunk as I saw this hole in my Elder Scrolls Anthology.”
The good news is that he’s lucky to be alive, since the heavy book/DVD case (which contained discs for The Elder Scrolls: Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim, as well as all their expansions) absorbed most of the impact and stopped the bullet from going further. Sucks for his game, though, which was a rare collector’s edition. The Reddit post has since gone viral, and Bethesda has offered to replace the busted copy with a new one.
If this isn’t an argument that physical media shouldn’t die, I don’t know what is.
