  • Famitsu Gives New Info On Project Setsuna During E3 a mysterious trailer was let loose by Square-Enix for a game called Project Setsuna. No gameplay footage or even cutscenes were shown; just several sketches and some moody music, plus drops of water, that suggested sadness or crying.
This week’s issue of Weekly Famitsu contained an interview where Square-Enix president Yosuka Matsuda gave a tiny scrap of information out about the title. Turns out our suppositions of sadness were right on the money — in fact, that’s what the name is referring to. “Setsuna” is intended to suggest the Japanese word of “setsunasa,” which roughly means “sadness” or “sorrow.”
    If ...
  • The New Dragon Quest Spinoff Looks Very Minecraft-y Dragon QuestEarlier in the month Square-Enix revealed that the next game to carry the Dragon Quest brand would be a spinoff called “Dragon Quest Builders.” Today they showed off three screenshots, the first glimpses anybody has ever gotten of the game. Stop me when this starts looking familiar to you.

Yup….it’s definitely Minecraft, or as legally close as Square can get. I’ll explain the game mechanics, but you likely already know them: you mine materials from the land using the hammer shown in the pics. With the materials you gather, you can build objects like houses. Your goal in this case ...

  • Witcher 3’s New Patch Needs A Patch witcher 3CD Projekt Red released Witcher 3’s long-overdue 1.07 patch last week. It took a while to be completed, but maybe it needed a little more work than that.
Eurogamer.net’s Digital Foundry analyzed the effects of the patch on all versions of the game and concluded that while it fixes some problems, it introduces new ones: most notably, the framerate becomes significantly slower. In some areas on XBox One, the rendering speed crawls down to a mere 20 frames a second.

“Essentially, gameplay on Xbox One now appears to rely on a similar double-buffer v-sync set-up to the PS4 game, locking its frame-rate ...
  • Witcher 3 Gets Upgraded With Patch 1.07 witcher 3The latest patch for The Witcher 3 took a long time to arrive, but you’ll soon see why. The patch — which is for all platforms, PC, XBox One and PS4 — does more than just fix bugs: it adds content for free, such as a new outfit for Ciri, a stash for players to store items in, and an “alternative movement style” for Geralt. Now he can move alternatively!
This added up to the most elaborate and lengthy patch Witcher 3 has had to date. If you seriously have the time to read every single patch note below, it means ...
  • It’s Over: Here’s How Much The Shenmue 3 Kickstarter Made shenmue 3One month ago, Yu Suzuki took to the Sony stage during E3 and announced that he was launching a Kickstarter, effective immediately, to fund Shenmue 3. Sega gave him permission, Sony agreed to help with promotion and funding (in exchange for some exclusivity), but it would be the fans that would determine how big the game could actually be.
The Kickstarter expired this afternoon, and wound up making $6,333,295 from 69,320 backers — over triple the initial amount asked for. This put Shenmue 3 over the record for the most funded video game in Kickstarter history, breaking the previous number set ...

It is comprised of six Imperial Districts, the extensive Imperial Sewers network, and the White-Gold Tower at its center. The dangers of Imperial City and the Sewers below are best ...

You might be wondering “If this version is free, what’s different? Meaning, in what way is it handicapped?” It is, but surprisingly, not so much that you can’t get any enjoyment out of it. The single-player mode is limited to six hours. If you want to play single-player longer than that, you must pay the full price. But the multiplayer mode will remain open forever.
That’s correct; multiplayer in Dragon ...
  • First Footage Of Shenmue 3 Released shenmue 3With just a little over two days to go for the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter, it doesn’t look like like Yu Suzuki is going to get his ten million dollars. He is guaranteed to get at least five million, though, and for any Kickstarter, that’s very impressive.
To stoke up the flames of sponsorship in this home stretch, Suzuki and his team have released the first video footage of Shenmue 3. It’s a cutscene, not gameplay footage, and it’s short, but it’s still the first new Shenmue material in fourteen years.

  • Dragon Age Comic By Greg Rucka To Be Published By Dark Horse Today, Dark Horse let one of their SDCC announcements out early: a new limited series based on a popular game franchise. BioWare’s Dragon Age series of roleplaying games is getting a comic spinoff later this year, and the story is being written by rising legend Greg Rucka. If you’re unfamiliar with Rucka’s work, rectify that immediately (here’s a good way to start, and it’s free).
As a big fan of RPG games, and of the Dragon Age series, Rucka felt a lot of pressure to create a narrative that did the series justice, and he believes he succeeded. It was no ...
  • Zero Escape 3 Finally In Production, Getting Worldwide Release Zero EscapeIn 2010 a little underdog DS game called Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors won the hearts of critics and became a cult sensation, despite belonging to the most niche gaming genre in the Western world: the visual novel (though unlike most Japanese novels on game systems, 999 included playable elements that made it more of a game).
The attention and sales resulted in a sequel, Virtue’s Last Reward, being published for both the 3DS and the Vita, as well as the series being branded Zero Escape and the original being reprinted under that title. That was in 2012. Since then ...
