Normally, the titular Quest for Dragons you take in Dragon Quest is to slay them, not tame them — this is why the original localization for the earlier games called them “Dragon Warrior.” But it looks like they’ll be more than just targets in the upcoming Dragon Quest 11, as Square released some new footage yesterday on Japanese TV that shows a character riding a flying dragon.
In this two-minute preview, you also get to see the battle field, some of the environments and cities, and a staff of programmers working on game models. Both the console and 3DS versions are shown off (the Switch version is not shown, and must still be under NDA). One revealing sight is that they apparently still use graphs to map out dungeon areas. But it’s that surprising first shot of the guy mounting the dragon that makes the biggest impression.
Dragon Quest 11 is being developed this very minute for Nintendo 3DS, Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
