Bioware officially announced the impending existence of Mass Effect 4, now retitled Mass Effect Andromeda, at the EA E3 press conference earlier today. The project is very early and will not be completed until late next year, but we did get a vague trailer that answered nothing. All we have to go on is Bioware’s official description of the game….
While we aren’t ready to go into too many details just yet, as you saw in the trailer and can tell by the name, this game is very much a new adventure, taking place far away from and long after the events of the original trilogy. You will play a human, male or female, though that’s actually not the character you saw in the trailer (more on that later). You’ll be exploring an all-new galaxy, Andromeda, and piloting the new and improved Mako you saw. And through it all, you will have a new team of adventurers to work with, learn from, fight alongside of, and fall in love with.
Bioware began development of Mass Effect Andromeda in early 2013, back when Mass Effect 3 was still being completed. According to them, this trailer (despite looking pre-rendered) is running on the game’s engine, which will of course be compatible only with current-gen consoles.
Mass Effect Andromeda has a current release window of the 2016 holiday season.
