As an RPG gamer who has been content to control games by occasionally pushing a button or two since I discovered Dragon Warrior for the NES, just watching this wears me out. But judging from the big grin on his face, Cyberith founder Tuncay Cakmak is more physically immersed in the world of Skyrim than anyone else ever has been, so maybe it wouldn’t hurt to get a little exercise.
The video is a promotion for Cakmak’s creation, the Cyberith Virtualizer omnidirectional treadmill. Unfortunately, it’s a device that isn’t commercially available yet, sorry. The rig also uses an Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, and a Wii Mote to create the experience. Tuncay does some shouts, too, but since he gets by with non-descript growls I’m assuming voice control is not included yet.
So, is this the future of gaming? Are you willing to look a little silly if it enhances the experience? Let us know what you think in the comments and on the forums.
