A Mary Sue means an overpowered or unrealistically perfect character. On that note, give him a flaw or two, too to balance things out a bit.

How about instead of Daedric, the armor is Steel Plate? Or Dwarven?

That would certainly help, but really, my problem is more with the backstory. Is there anything in there you'd be willing to part with?
