Is that all you got?!
I've found that I don't really use shouts at all, I did at first just because it was something new to TES, but after a month of having the game, I stopped shouting...besides, it was scaring the villagers. Of course, you have to shout at certain parts of the main quest, so that doesn't count; I'm talking about as a general combat style. If I get it, I might use Storm Call, but only because it really creates a problem for multiple enemies (I've never had the third version of this, but I think it's the same as when Alduin uses it and meteors come crashing down). Other than that, I don't use them at all, I'll sometimes have 20+ dragon souls and nearly as many shouts to unlock, but I won't even bother going to the menu to unlock them.

Is it just me, or is anyone else not using them? I think the idea was cool, especially at first, but I find it hard to rely on something that takes so long to recharge. I realize shouts are just supposed to be a supplement if a situation gets sticky, but the damage or effect they have on an opponent is taking that much away from my character getting exp. Maybe if there was a skill for shouts and perks you could get to lower recharge time or something, then it would be useful...but just like werewolves, it's kinda' useless to me unless I'm advancing in level and getting stronger by using it. Thoughts?

With my pure mage, I use Ice Form probably to excess. It's a great way to get one on one battles, or have your foe lie there while you decide on which nasty way he's going to die. Plus my mage builds tend to be very pure mages, with 100 hp at lvl 40 and no armor or horribly game distracting stoneflesh type of spells, and they also travel alone.

With my current Nord, because he travels everywhere with Lydia (properly Wabbajacked and kitted), I haven't really had any need for shouts yet.

Also my Assassin has utterly no need for them, as he just kills everything in one hit. (and is a bit dull at parties ;))

My general view:- Solo, non stealth characters:- varied shouts and often.
Stealthy and Chars that travel with a party:- rarely if ever.

I use Marked for Death just about every chance I get. I find it very useful. I also wear an amulet of Talos which reduces the cool-down times of shouts. I don't think most people would wear it, but my fighting style depends a lot on the Marked for Death shout sometimes, so I want to use it as much as possible.

Like a brother from another mother. I've never increased the health on any mage I've ever had. I also used Ice Form at one time just for its awesome ability to give you a breather from the onslaught, and like Pete, I used shouts at higher diff levels. However, I've found I no longer need to use Ice Form to save my skin, I either win the battle, lose and try again, or realize that Master Vampires should really be left alone until you can actually beat them...

I don't use all the shouts. I find the cool down timer really slow, even wearing an amulet of talos and especially when you have all three levels of a shout and some cool down faster than others.

When I want to explore places that are just out of reach, I'll use the Whirlwind shout to get me to spots a little hard to reach.
I'll use Marked for Death on dragons to help speed up their demise.
I've used Storm Call a few times but it only good outside and tends to zap my followers when I have them... not so good... Oh and Train... no the third level doesn't call meteors... that's a shout the player doesn't have access to unfortunately.
Sometimes I'll use Ice Form to thin out a crowd so I can take them one at a time.

Most of the times though.. I forget about them.

Detect life was essential for my sneak archer. Marked for death for bosses and dragons.
Storm call and call dragon for outside hilarity as often as possible

I never found the detect life one to work for me... because it would show me where everything was, even when they were behind a mountain...

I did like throw voice for some hilarity... one because som of them were funny "Hey Skeever Butt" and it usually distracted them so I could shoot 'em

Throw voice does make me laugh. I also got a kick out of using Call Dragon during the civil war quests. Raiding a fort with a dragon burning your enemies up is much more fun than just raiding a fort! :D

I'll have to try that next run through... I keep finishing off the civil war before getting call dragon

Ah, I forgot, Doomy mentioned calling Odahviing, and that also reminds me of Dragonrend. I would use these, except for the fact that I have trouble playing the mainquests for TES games, something about it I guess, I only beat the game once just to say I did it, since then I've ignored it completely. It's not that I don't like the main quest, it's just that it is the main quest...can't play it, does not compute. So both those shouts are out by default since I refuse to play it that far in, even though I'd probably use them (I know, I'm weird...guilty as charged).

I can understand that... I will do a part of the main quest then go off and do others and explore, then come back to the main quest... rinse and repeat

I love call dragon and storm call. Use them all the time. I also use other various shouts. Not that I need too, but I like them, some just make me laugh.

Also, FUS RO DAH is helpful for those times when your follower just wont get out of your way in a doorway. ;)

I rarely have followers, and this is one of the reasons why, besides the fact that their stealing exp. from me. ;) I've had to use the old F.R.D. just to fix minor glitches with quests where someone wasn't moving when they should have been - and it's real bad when all you have is Fus.

The Best shout in the game is Fus Ro Dah for throwing giants off of a cliff to their death =)

The only shouts I use are Whirlwind Spring when I'm traveling, and Clear Skies because the world is so much more beautiful when it's sunny and clear.

Though early on, I would use Fus when my stamina was low and I couldn't shield bash.

I really only used alot with my 2hander orc, seemed to work well with that guy. The ONE shout that I always use is Become Ethereal though, just because I like to take the short way down a mountain!

Aura shout is the most vital thing evah. This time round, my 2nd go at skyrim, I found it very early on (maybe around level 8-9) and discovered just how invaluable it is, especially for my mage who is poorly armoured and ill equipped to take a draugr sneaking up on him. I use it all the time, even now at level 50.
Become Ethereal is good for sprinting/falling, but we all know that.

The least useful has got to be A.Allegiance, I don't think I have ever used it successfully.
