  • Vampire Lord Or Dawnguard? Aug 25, 2012

    I have a LVL 81 assassin that uses onehanded (dual wield), archery and obviously light armor. I thought since shes an assassin i would go with the volkihar clan and stick with the first crossbow you get but then i remembered if you go further in with the dawnguard you get an enhanced dwarven crossbow that surpasses even a dragonbone bow. This account is my only one with all the archery perks and is very skilled with the archery class. So now im stuck. Should I go more assassin and side with the Volkihar clan or join the dawnguard and get the most powerful ranged weapon in the game with all perks in archery?

    I'd go with Dawnguard, becaouse at the end Serena can turn you into a Vampire Lord anyway. You won't get any of the special rings or other accesories that make a Vampire Lord more powerful, but you will get pet Armored Trolls, enhanced Dwemer crossbows, fiery, cold, or shocking steel or dwarven bolts and special Dawnguard rune weapons, plus you can still turn off the sun if you'd like, plus you can still get the sunhallowed arrows and Auriels Bow, which fires Sunhallowed arrows to explode in a blast of light or Bloodcursed arrows which blot out the sun if fired at it. Of course if you intend to roleplay I'd be the Volikhar.

    Aha I forgot to mention that i wanted to roleplay :p Will it still be as fun if I play in a logical sense and side with the Dawnguard?

    It is fun, but since you are an assassin I assumed you'd want to be a Volikhar. I played as Volikhar with my evil Dark Brotherhood Thieves Guild Companion basically everything guy who I made an alchoholic skooma addict, and I did Dawnguard with my archer Bosmer who I made the opposite of him. If you do Volikhar you become lord of a coven of vampires, you get a drink that helps one of your powers, you get new things like amulets and rings that increase your power, you get to rescue a vampire from the Soul Cairn who decks the place out, you get a ton of new stores, you get two advisors, you get vampire cattle to feed on, you get Vampire Lord from the get-go and you get a room full of awesome coffins that increase your powers, and you get to turn others for certain quests, including your spouse. There are other things. The things you get on either side are Vampire Lord in general, Royal Vampire armor, regular crossbow with regular bullets, a limited supply, dwarven bullets on dwarven spheres, Harkons sword, Serena the companion, dawnguard armor, Auriels bow, Sunhallowed arrows, Bloodcursed arrows, acces to the only remaining snow elf and his temple, a skeletal horse you can summon with a spell, acces to the Soul Cairn, and two dogs, doomhounds for Volikhar, wardogs for Dawnguard. There are other things. With Dawnguard you get recipes for all kinds of crossbows and arrows, you get 500 septims a piece Armored Troll pets, the chance to glitch Serena so you can have two followers as long as she is one of them, Dawnguard rune weapons, which are awesome, the light spells which do extra damage to vampires, the ability to remain as a werewolf or turn to a VL, a ton of new shops, acces to all the orc strongholds and other things I've forgotten. It may still be fun if you say you had a traumatic experience with vampires as a child or something.

    Volikhar cons: No Crossbows or Armored Trolls!:sadface:

    Dawnguard cons: You don't get any of the special amulets and rings, and you don't get the cattle who walk around just to be fed on.

    Not very many cons.

    I was only listing the things directly having to do with Dawnguard or Volikhar, not the new side quests, aside from Arvak sinc ehe's from the Soul Cairn and he's awesome. Oh, and you get to summon Durnhevvir, an undead dragon, no matter what, plus he teaches you a new word of a shout every time you summon him and you can summon him inddors or underground cuz he teleports.

    You make a really intruiging point about my character having a fear of vampires from a tramatic event but since shes evil and greedy wouldnt be cool if she had a castle full of vamps that worship her? ughh decisions decisions

    Okay, well if you have a traumatic experience person you will be assisted by a vampire through the whole thing and she will become a follower afterwards. Also, you can hit on her and ask to marry but she'll say she hates temples.

    I prefer the Vampire side (though I haven't even played the Dawnguard side because of the story similarities and mediocre story-telling of the DLC) because you get to become the Lord of a vampire coven and castle and also get treated with a lot of respect by a few members of the court. Otherwise, everything else is obtainable on both the Dawnguard and Volkihar Vampire sides of the DLC (e.g. Crossbows, the ability to become Vampire Lord, Serana as a follower, Auriel's Bow, etc.).

    Oh i know the vampires side is better for roleplaying and is more fun. I'm just thinking that even though my character is evil, I want to get the full crossbow experience since shes my only character that has all perks in archery.

    Well -- I haven't played the Vampire side, but from what I heard most of the stuff you get is beneficial for mages... I have completed the Dawnguard side, and the crossbow IS good, AND when you finish the questline, you can ask Serana to become a Vampire if you want, so you get your crossbow, and the vampire lord form.

    So, you can get the crossbow, AND become a Vampire at the end if you choose Dawnguard... your choice.

    But dont you think it could be beneficial to be able to use auriels bow efficiently if your on the vampires side ( since some side quests require you to kill other vampires) rather than just use it as a mage to blot out the sun?
